Keep travel accessory in your travel luggage

If you usually travel with the same bag it is not necessary to unpack travel accessory you always need when traveling. This saves you the time for packing and unpacking and also reduces the risk of forgetting something. Typical travel accessories that can permanently remain in your travel luggage are:

Electric AC adapters
zip locks for liquids you need for airport security
bags for shoes and dirty clothes
memory sticks
laundry bag (taken from any hotel) for your dirty staff
etc.

Individualize your laptop

With only few global brands of makers a lot of people have the same or a similarly looking laptop. I heard of a case where two identical laptops of two people were mixed up in airport security and both arrived at their destination with the wrong machine.

The best way to avoid such things is to individualize your laptop with stickers of your company logo or something else which you like and which also complies with your company policy.

Multiple AC Adapters for mobile devices

Mobile electronic devices such as phones, PDA’s, blackberries etc. usually are delivered to you with only one AC adapter. Since they are mobile by nature you often will also carry all adapters with you between home and work.

I recommend to have a second AC adapter for each device so that you avoid having them in your daily luggage. You should place them at a convenient place in your office or at home, so that you will immediately charge them when you are not using them.

I even heard of some people who usually have three adapters for teir most important devices, so that there is one in the office, at home and in the luggage permanently.

Luggage name tags

It is very useful to attach name tags to your luggage so that it can easily be identified on the airport belt or when lost. However, some criminals are taking names and addresses from name tags at stations and airports assuming that the homes will be easy targets to break in.

You therefore better use tags which do not specify all this data. It would be sufficient to have a name and a phone number, or your company information. Many airline provide tags to their frequent flyers with only the frequent flyer number and a phone number of the airline to protect their customers privacy.

Since most luggage items look very similar you should also individualize it with some colored stickers or other staff. This ensures that you will quickly identify your own luggage and avoid other people to pick-up your luggage by mistake because it looks similar to their own one.
