If you know you have 8 hours for a task chances are high that you really will require 8 hours. In case you set yourself a more ambitious target of e.g. 6 hours you will probably also keep the time.

Giving yourself time pressure is a very powerful method to increase your speed and efficiency because you become more focussed.
