Never put any objects on the floor which do not belong there. This applies for your home as well as your work place. Objects on the floor immediately make an untidy impression and invite others to follow making the mess even bigger.
Since cleaning up the floor also requires you to get down (which most people don’t like) it will take you more mental energy to start cleaning up and therefore it will take longer until you start.
